The Depth of God’s Love for Us

The love of God for us is without a doubt. In several ways, he has shown that he loves us.

By his love, he sent his son to die for us. God does not love men’s sins or the wicked world system, but He loves people and is not willing that any should perish.

The extent of His love is shown by the fact that He gave His only begotten Son. God has no other Son like the Lord Jesus. It was an expression of His infinite love that He would be willing to give His unique Son for a race of rebel sinners.

God’s love is not static or self-centered; it reaches out and draws others in. Here God sets the pattern of true love, the basis for all love relationships—when you love someone dearly, you are willing to give to them freely, to the point of self-sacrifice. God paid dearly with the life of his Son, the highest price he could pay. Jesus accepted our punishment, paid the price for our sins, and then offered us the new life that he had bought for us.

God showed his love towards us and while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us (Romans 5:8). “While we were still sinners”—these are amazing words. God sent Jesus Christ to die for us, not because we were good enough, but just because he loved us and wants us to spend eternity with him. Whenever you feel uncertain about God’s love for you, remember that he loved you even before you turned to him.

The love that caused Jesus to die is the same love that has sent the Holy Spirit to live in us and guide us every day. The power that raised Christ from the dead is the same power that saved you and can be yours every day. Be assured that, having begun a life with Christ, you have a reservoir of power and love to call upon each day for help to meet every challenge or trial. You can pray for God’s power and loving help as you need it.
