Wisdom Is Your Capital

Brain with wisdom

A capital figuratively means the most important. The capital city of a county is the first in importance in the country. Similarly, wisdom is the first in importance a man needs for a blissful life on earth.

The Bible describes wisdom as the principal thing and encourages everyone to get it (Proverbs 4:7). It comes first, above everything else.

Some may regard other things above wisdom, but nothing can be sustained without it. A man with wisdom will increase the little he has, but the one that lacks it will soon squander the great wealth in his possession.

Wisdom is a gift given by God to people who fear and reverence him. The fear of God is the beginning of wisdom (Proverbs 9:10).

However, wisdom can be corrupted by what we see, hear, and the company we keep. It must be protected. The Bible compared it to money that should not be handled with a loose hand (Ecclesiastes 7:12). It should be protected by meticulously guarding what you look at, hear, and mingling with the right friends (1 Corinthians 15:33; Job 31:1).

Some regards power above wisdom, but power without it brings shame. The wisdom of a man that has little may be despised but his words in quiet is better than the shouting of a ruler without wisdom (Ecclesiastes 9:16-18).

Like a precious commodity, the Bible tells us to buy wisdom and keep it (Proverbs 23:23). It is too precious to be sold at any price. No money in the world can effort it and many with great wealth cherish it but can’t have it. It only comes from God. It is better to get wisdom and understanding than gold and silver (Proverbs 16:16).

Wisdom is found in Christ. Surrender your life to him and God will grant the grace to live a righteous life in all wisdom and understanding.
