The Keys of the Kingdom of Heaven

The keys of heaven

Jesus was with his disciples on the coast of Caesarea Philippi. He asked them what they think of him. They gave their various response but Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” — Matthew 16:16

Jesus said it was revealed to him by the heavenly Father through his Spirit (Matthew 16:17). He said he would build his church with that confession of Peter concerning him (Matthew 16:18). The acceptance of Christ and faith in him is the rock of the church.

Christ further promised to give Peter the keys to the kingdom of heaven (Matthew 16:19). The keys to the kingdom of heaven was not only given to Peter or limited to him. It’s given to all who has done or will what he did—confessing Christ and receiving Him into his life.

The keys to the kingdom of heaven is not for everybody but for those who accepted Christ as Peter did. It was given to him because he confessed Christ and so is everyone given who does the same.

God is in heaven. The keys of the kingdom of heaven is the power to ask anything from God and receive (John 16:23). It unlocks heaven and grants us access to the throne of grace to receive all we desire (Hebrews 4:16).

The keys of the kingdom of heaven is important because it grants us access to God. No one is created to live independently of God. We were created by him and for him (Colossians 1:16).

The keys of the kingdom of heaven grant us the privilege to ask and receive from God. This is a privilege that not everyone enjoys but only those that have received Christ in faith and believe in him.

To receive the keys of the kingdom of heaven, give your life to Christ. Whoever confesses the Lord Jesus and believes in his death and resurrection will be saved and given the keys to the kingdom of heaven to have access to God and the throne of grace (Romans 10:9).
