How to Grow in Grace

A Christian with bible

Grace is the divine influence of God over the life of an individual. God can love someone so much that he would desire to have a huge influence over him.

We can do nothing without God. To grow in grace, we must abide in Christ. Christ is the vine and we are the branches. No branch can bear fruit on its own without the vine. No one can bear the fruit of grace in God without Christ (John 15:4-5).

We must stay faithful to Christ to grow in grace. No one gets to the Father without his son, Jesus (John 14:6). God desires to have a predominant influence over our lives, but can when we surrender our lives to him through his son.

We also experience growth in grace when we give ourselves to study of God's word and other knowledge.

God's word admonishes that we study to get ourselves approved by God (2 Timothy 2:15). God shows great influence over our lives when we are approved of him.

Every believer should create time for God and his word. Apart from the growth in grace, God's word help in the growth in wisdom and general wellbeing of the believer.

Peter counseled that we grow in grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ. Knowledge and grace are inseparable. They go together (2 Peter 3:18).

We also gain more of God's grace by humility. God resists the proud and gives more grace to the humble (James 4:6). God loves the humble and maintains a close relationship with him. The closer we are to God through humility, the greater his influence will be over us.

God hates pride and rewards humility with riches, honor, and life (Proverbs 22:4). He also rewards humility with grace.

We grow in grace when we habitually speak the truth. God desires truth. Paul admonished the Ephesians to speak the truth in love that they grow in God in all things (Ephesians 4:15). Growing in all things includes growing in grace.

God doesn't want us to remain stagnant in grace and we pray that he will help us abide in Christ and remain humble to grow continually in grace.
