What Angels Do When a Person Dies

Angels have several ministries. They are ministering spirits. They are God's messengers. God delegates them to serve his children in the household of faith (Hebrews 1:14).

They play a role at the death of every human among the several ministries assigned to them.

They lead humans through the land of the spirits to heaven.

God knows the exact time every man would die. He sends his angels to wait for the departure of the person's soul from his body even before he dies.

The person dies and angels lead him through spiritual places he is not accustomed to. He brings him to the judgment seat of God (Hebrews 9:27). He is permitted into heaven if he has done well (Matthew 25:21). He is asked to go to hell if he did evil during his lifetime (Matthew 7:23)

Jesus gave a parable to illustrate this.  It is the parable of the rich man and poor Lazarus.

The rich man enjoyed the luxury of life. Lazarus was poor and could hardly feed himself (Luke 16:25).

The rich man died and was buried. Lazarus died also and was carried by angels to Abraham's bosom (Luke 16:22).

Abraham's bosom is synonymous with heaven in the parable. Lazarus was carried to heaven (Abraham's bosom) by angels.

This is one of the ministries of angels. They transport humans to the presence of God after death. They are ministering spirits to men when alive and even after death also.

Lazarus who was righteous was taken by angels. That was not said of the rich man. He was simply buried (Luke 16:22).

Just as there are holy angels, there are evil angels also. They are fallen otherwise known as demons (Psalm 78:49).

While the righteous are taken by the holy angels to heaven, demons take the unrepentant sinners to hell. They are not permitted to see the righteous Christ after death at the judgment. They are judged by someone else. They are told the evils they did and why it justifies their going to hell.

It is important to note that the rich man did not go to hell because he was rich or because he refused to give the poor Lazarus food (Luke 16:21). He went to hell because he was a sinner. He might have accumulated his wealth through the wrong means. The people who do such usually don't have sympathy for their fellow men like he did to Lazarus.

Lazarus did not go to heaven because he was poor or because he was a beggar. He went to heaven because he was righteous. He kept his righteousness and refused to compromise despite his poor condition.

God expects that from everyone. Some excuse compromise because of lack. They say they commit a crime because they were not having enough funds to take care of their bills. God has assured us that as he takes care of the grass of the field and the birds of the air, he will take care of us (Matthew 6:25-32).

I pray God helps us make heaven at last.
