How to Receive the Righteousness of God

Saying prayer to God

Righteousness is seen to mean different things by people, but there is only one way to be righteous before God. Some think they are righteous when they do many good works, like giving to the needy. Though the Lord approve doing good to others, but we should not see it as the basis of our being righteous.

Romans 5:1 stated what true righteousness is: “Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ” —KJV

To be justified means to be declared righteous. We are declared righteous by God through our faith in Jesus and not by our works (Ephesians 2:8). A man who thinks he is righteous because of his works is like someone putting on rags to visit a king. All our self-righteousness are filthy rags in his sight (Isaiah 64:6).

The unrighteous as the scripture has said will not inherit the kingdom of God.  Fornication, adultery, homosexuality, lesbianism, stealing, drunkenness, bribery are all forms of unrighteousness (1Corinthians 6:9-10).

Amazingly, so many people feel comfortable involving themselves in those sins because they may feel they have bribed God by their works through heavy donations in church. He cannot be mocked. He has said those involved in it will not inherit heaven. Anyone who doesn’t inherit heaven will definitely make hell for all eternity.

There is hope for everyone. We can get true righteousness by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. Only by that we can have peace with the Lord.

Apart from righteousness and peace with God we get through Jesus, we also get grace (Romans 5:2). Only in Christ we see the hand and influence of the Lord over our lives. We will have hope for eternal life and to be taken at the rapture.

When we obtain righteousness through faith in Jesus, the Holy Spirit will be given to us. He will lead us to become full grown sons of God.

However, life with Christ doesn’t always promise a life of comfort. We should rejoice in time of prosperity and also in tribulation. The Lord wants everyone to be righteous through Jesus because only through that we can make eternal life.
